Writing, for me, has been a cathartic writing experience. I was inspired after reading two amazing personal stories. The first was a friend, who faced incredible challenges while overcoming adversity in a marriage she had been pressured into. Despite having no help to leave, she ultimately managed to escape with focus and determination. She’s taken significant steps toward carving out a life that is completely different from the traditional role expected of her, which had her prioritizing everyone else's happiness at the expense of her own hopes, dreams, and happiness.
My main abuser, my Mum, was always terrified I would find my voice through cathartic writing, and that people would discover the lies she told and the things that were happening. With the help of other close family members, she would spread the most hurtful things about me, ensuring I wouldn’t be believed. This is my story of overcoming adversity, and I hope it inspires other people to share their personal stories. Whatever you might be going through, please remember there are always people out there to help you.

The second was a family member of a doctor who has been helping me. She was the first refugee to arrive in the UK, escaping Cambodia, which had been taken over by the Khmer Rouge, who killed and tried to enslave huge swathes of the population. This woman's journey is a powerful example of overcoming adversity, and her determination was hugely inspiring to me. Through her personal stories, I found a source of strength and motivation, reminiscent of the cathartic writing that helps many process their own experiences.
